As summer is winding down, it means that preparations are happing at home so that the kids can go back to school. As you go through your Back-to-School checklist, make sure that you don’t overlook the important task of scheduling an eye exam for your children. This time of year is a great reminder to visit an eye doctor to assess the vision health of each child.

Why Back-to-School Eye Exams?

Did you know that poor vision can have a negative impact on learning? If a child is having a hard time seeing the board or the teacher, then they might need more time to understand the concepts that are taught. Vision is an integral part of the learning process. An eye exam can check your child’s vision to see if they are in need of corrective lenses.

During this eye exam, tests are done to assess visual-motor skills and deficiencies with perceptual-cognitive skills. The eye exam is designed to look at things such as visual processing, eye movements, eye focusing, eye tracking, and eye alignment.

Vision Therapy to Boost Performance in School

If a child is having difficulty with these visual skills, then vision therapy and other treatments can be used to correct the problem. By implementing the right treatment program, the child will be able to correct any vision problems so that they can boost their performance in school.

There are different conditions that can be treated with vision therapy. These treatment methods are used for problems such as ADD, head injuries, developmental delays, autism, sports vision improvement and more.

Children who are having a hard time in school can often benefit from vision therapy. These treatments help to improve their ability to cognitively process visual cues, which in turn has an immediate impact on learning and performance. Correcting any learning-related vision problems can help to keep your child on track now, which will have a long-term impact for the rest of their life.
